/Connecticut News Articles/ - NEW HAVEN, CT, August 31, 2008 - On August 18, 2008, the Connecticut Alliance for Business Opportunities (CABO), Connecticut's first statewide gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender chamber of commerce, held their first event at the Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale.

Thirty members and prospects of CABO gathered in The Courtside Club - a semiprivate suite overlooking stadium court on Monday evening, a week ago, to watch Alize Cornet of France face Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic in a rematch of their first-round Olympic meeting in Beijing. Anne Worcester, the Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament Director brought Jurgen Melzer of Vienna Austria, ranked 48th in the world, and Bethanie Mattek, ranked 45th in the world for a quick meet and greet with CABO members.

"We are proud of the newly formed partnership between Pilot Pen Tennis and CABO. Pilot Pen Tennis was happy to host the August CABO meeting at the tournament," Worcester stated. "We look forward to becoming the August meeting host site in the years to come."

CABO's next event will be its monthly Business OUT Reach on September 24, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gershon Fox Room, 960 Main Street, Hartford, CT. For directions, go to www.marquee-ct.com/contact_directions.htm for directions. The featured guest will be Connecticut Comptroller, Nancy Wyman. More details will be posted at CABO's website: www.thecabo.org .

CABO launched just shy of a year ago at a packed event held in New Haven at Bentara Restaurant, one of the first businesses to join the alliance. Since its launch on National Coming Out Day in October in 2007, CABO has enjoyed tremendous success, joining the ranks of growing GLBT chambers of commerce in cities from Washington, DC to Seattle, Washington, with a growing membership that now numbers over 125 members. CABO is in the process of planning the one-year celebration event to be hosted again at Bentara Restaurant. Details can be found on the website in the coming weeks.

CABO was co-founded by Dena Castricone, a New Haven attorney with Murtha Cullina LLP who sought opportunities to make business contacts in the local GLBT business community, along with Eniko Mikle, Financial Advisor for UBS Financial Services, Inc., of Fairfield, CT, and Lisa Moyles, owner of Moyles and Associates, Inc. of Stratford, CT. Joining the co-founders, CABO's board of directors is now composed of six additional innovative business people and leaders in the GLBT community: Kim Wanamaker, owner of the green ROCKS Inn in Ridgefield, CT; Beth McCabe, Executive Director of Schooner Inc. in New Haven, CT; Nick Prevost; Glen Pierson, Partner at Loughlin FitzGerald P.C. in Wallingford, CT; Rosalie Dunn, owner of Westport Therapeutic in Westport, CT; and Jenn Tracz of Travel Insured, East Hartford, CT.
