Likewise Names Leading Open Source Voice as CTO
Likewise announced the promotion of Gerald Carter to Chief Technology Officer.
BELLEVUE, WA, July 09, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Likewise, a software platform provider for identity, security and storage, announced today the promotion of Gerald (Jerry) Carter to Chief Technology Officer, starting immediately.
Carter has been developing, writing about, and teaching on open source since the late '90s at events such as LISA, LinuxWorld Expo, SANE, SambaXP, OSCON, and the SNIA SDC. He was a member of the Samba core development team from 1998-2009 and has authored both "LDAP System Administration" and the third edition of "Using Samba," and for O'Reilly Publishing.
"Jerry has been such a vocal advocate of the open source community and a driving force of the great differentiation of Likewise technology - an open source, not just free product," said Barry Crist, CEO, Likewise. "As we begin to open more expansive channels in the storage arena, Jerry's expertise in building Likewise Storage Services will become increasingly valuable."
Carter held previous positions at HP and VA Linux systems and completed a term on the Usenix Association's Board of Directors. He replaces retiring CTO Manny Vellon who remains as a Likewise Technical Fellow.
